Counseling Services offers groups and workshops on a variety of topics throughout the academic year to support students having a successful semester.
Groups
ADHD Support Group - This group is designed to help support students who struggle with symptoms of ADHD, such as time management, procrastination, organizational skills, and emotional and relationship struggles that go along with having ADHD. An official diagnosis is not required. Please email Andrea Paugh (andrea.paugh@gcsu.edu) to sign up.
Neurodivergent Support Group - If you often find yourself trying to figure out better ways to interact with “normal” brained people, this group is for you! We live in a world where the majority, or neuro-typical brained people, make the rules for relationships and social interactions, and where many fail to recognize that neuro-diverse brain types provide much needed diversity and depth in our world. This group is designed to provide support and encouragement for neuro-divergent students seeking to better understand how to successfully navigate in a neuro-typical world. An official diagnosis is not required. Please email Andrea Paugh (andrea.paugh@gcsu.edu) to sign up.
Grief Support Group - This group provides grief support to GCSU students who are coping the with the loss of a loved one. Please contact Jenny Brooks jenny.brooks1@gcsu.edu to sign up or for more information.
RISE: Resilience in Identity and Self Exploration, A group for LGBTQ+ Students - Want to learn a little "ordinary magic" (i.e., resilience) to help you bounce back from hard times? Interested in exploring who you are and what is important? If yes, please consider joining our cohort. RISE is a cohort based weekly group that explores skills to navigate sexual orientation and gender expression/identity. The group will utilize The Queer & Transgender Resilience Workbook by Dr. Anneliese Singh (copies will be provided to participants). Events
Silent Book Club at GCSU - Unlike a typical book club, there is no assigned reading. Bring your own book of any kind, read quietly, and talk about what you read- if you feel like it. It's a low-pressure opportunity to connect with other students.
We meet monthly and the next meeting will be Wednesday August 27 at 5PM in the HUB (Blackbridge Hall).
5:00-5:30pm - People arrive, share what they're reading
5:30-6:30pm - Quiet reading hour
6:30-7:00pm - Optional socializing, or just keep reading
